![]() Plenty of times, I have wished a game would be available for the on the go but, in this case, I am glad a mobile game came to consoles.Alto’s Adventure is procedurally generated endless snowboarding game. For the price of one game, you get two games with tons of replayability. If you are a fan of the genre or just want a relaxing game that is easy to jump into, then this is definitely something for you. Endless runners are designed to be repetitive in nature and some people may tire after some time. The Alto Collection is definitely not for everyone. ![]() Add in some soothing music that I could rock my daughter to sleep to and you have the complete package here. Neither is too harsh and I loved the day/night transitions with the occasional lightning storm in the background. The snow and sand settings are just done in a way so that they are pleasing to the eye. I wish there was a way to cash the completed ones in or maybe have it done automatically.īoth games are quite beautiful in their own right. It is a tough decision to make when you are on a long run as you cannot decide if you want to see how far you can last or you just want to get working on new challenges. The only thing that was annoying (as a trophy hunter) was that when finishing the set, you would only get your new set after the run. The game remains the same regardless of how far or how little you get with the challenges. The character-specific challenges will state the character’s name like “Using Paz…” Challenges are optional in that you really do not need to complete them unless you want to unlock new characters or you fancy yourself a trophy hunter. Performing three double backflips in one run is entirely possible with Alto over time but using Maya can finish that challenge in the first 30 seconds. Some other characters you will be able to use include Maya who does not build up speed as easily but can turn flips twice as fast or Paz who is incredibly slow with flips but will constantly build up speed.Ĭhanging characters can be done prior to any run and some challenges are character-specific or designed to be easier using said characters. Alto is the main character and probably will be your most used character. Completing the entire set grants you a level and every 10th level you unlock new characters to use. The coins on the other hand can be used to purchases upgrades for your characters such as longer coin magnet duration or a second life when you inevitably crash and burn.Īt the start of every run, a set of three challenges will appear for you to complete. The llamas do give you points but are really just an afterthought. Such a simple set of tasks producing a satisfying result is a wonderful thing.Īs you ride down the mountain, Alto will collect coins and llamas. Performing flips and grinds will also grant brief speed boosts upon landing which is necessary to both jump some chasms or to outrun the elders you disturb on the mountain with your antics (basically, the no-fun police). You can continually hold it for multiple backflips but make sure you let go or you will not stick that landing. Holding down the X button causes Alto to begin a backflip. Pressing X (on PS4 at least) will make Alto jump. Seems simple, right? To make this simple concept even simpler, there is only one button in play the entire time. While the plot (if you can call it that) is to retrieve your llamas, you really just lead Alto (and other unlockable characters) down procedurally generated mountains avoiding rocks, jumping chasms and, grinding bunting lines/rooftops. Both games are remarkably similar other than the setting: snow versus sand. The Alto Collection is a package of two endless runners that were originally released on mobile phones in 2018. He does this over and over and over again. Instead of the traditional shepherd’s crook, Alto snowboards down mountainsides gathering his runaway llama. Developed by Noodlecake Studios, Alto’s Adventure/Odyssey tells the tale of Alto, who is a shepherd of sorts.
